A newly formed Neighbourhood Forum and area has been designated to plan parts of Newington, as detailed in the map above.
Importantly, responsibility for this has been transferred to the local community. You are able to directly influence and change the area for the better, by having a say about its future, or even by being involved in undertaking real and lasting change yourself.
Ideas you have will be taken forward in the form of a plan for the area. Your comments are sought on the sorts of things that would make the place better, in terms of re-using buildings that exist or by creating new ones, such as new housing. There are issues about the future of West Park and what happens at the KC Stadium.
There are a number of steps in getting the plan agreed. The first step involves seeking your views. It also has to conform to national planning rules (called the National Planning Policy Framework) and the Council’s Local Plan. It also has to be based on clear evidence and not just be about ‘wish lists’. The steps and evidence needed are important in getting the plan agreed by an independent inspector and by the community when a referendum on it occurs.
